Higher Education Loans Board (HELB)

Initially, HELB used to support government sponsored students only in public universities.
Later on, it extended support to privately sponsored students programme (PSSP) students and employees on school based programmes and also private universities.
HELB issues application forms annually to eligible students and have a criteria of awarding loans which range from Ksh. 35,000. Loans are disbursed according to the level of need.
Dissatisfied students are allowed to appeal for additional loan on condition that they attach evidence of being needy.
Loans are disbursed twice each year, during 1st and 2nd semesters.
