Answer three questions.
Questions one and two are compulsory.
In questions three choose only o the optional texts you have prepared on.
Each of your essays must not exceed 450 words.
All answers to be written in the booklet provided.
This paper consists of 2 printed pages.
Candidates should check to ensure that all pages are printed as indicated and no questions are missing

1. Creative composition (Compulsory) (20mrks)
Either
a) Write a composition starting with:
“As I said goodbye to her, little did I know that, that would be the last time I would be seeing
her……..”
OR
b) Write a story to illustrate the saying: “You can not climb the ladder of success with your hands in the
pocket.”
2. The Compulsory set text (20mrks)
Ngugi Wa Thiong’o – “The River Between”
Drawing all your. Illustrations from the novel, The River Between’ write an essay on the statement “Rev.
Livingstone and Joshua are to blame for their little success in the evangelization of the land of the
sleeping lions”.
3. Optional set texts
Answer any one of the following three questions.
Either
a) The short story
Macmillan (E.d) Half a day and other stories. With illustrations from Said Hagi Divie Hertz’s story.
“Government by magic spell” show how a community reaps what it sows.
OR
b) Drama
John Ruganda, Shreds of tenderness
Write a composition and show that sibling rivalry is dangerous.
OR
c) The novel
Velma pollard, Homestretch
Write a composition describing how Laura helps Edith and David settle down in Jamaica.
