INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES
1. Answer three questions only.
2. Question one and two are compulsory.
3. In Question three, choose only one of the set optional texts you have prepared on.
4. Each of the essays must not exceed 450 words.
This paper consists of 2 printed pages.
Candidates should check the question paper to ensure that all pages are printed as indicated and no questions are missing
1. Imaginative Composition
Either
a) Write a composition ending with the words: “The events of this dark day will remain edged in my mind for eternity”.
Or
b) Write a story based on the proverb: “A waterpot breaks at the doorstep”.
2. The compulsory set text.
An Enemy of the People – Henrik Ibsen.
Write a composition to show how relevant the title An Enemy of the People is to the play. (20mks)
3. The optional set texts.
a) Macmillan (Ed) Half a Day and other stories.
“Money does not buy happiness”. Discuss this statement in relation to the story, ‘Moneyman’.

Or
b) Drama – Shreds of Tenderness – John Ruganda.
“Blood is thicker than water”. Justify this statement with reference to Shreds of Tenderness.
Or
c) The Novel – Homestretch by Velma Pollard.
“East or West, home is best”. Using Velma Pollard’s Homestretch, show how true this
statement is.
