INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES
 Answer three questions only.
 Questions one and two are compulsory.
 In question three choose only one of the optional texts you have prepared on.
 ALL your answers to be written in the answer booklet provided.
 Where a candidate presents work on more than one optional text, only the first one to appear will be marked
 Each essay MUST NOT exceed 450 words
This paper consists of 2 printed pages. Candidates should check the question paper to ensure that all the pages are printed as indicated and no questions are missing.
1. Imagination composition (compulsory) (20marks)
Either a) Write a composition ending with the following statement
The events of that day, will remain printed in my mind for ever.
OR
b)Write a composition to illustrate the saying
“A stitch in time saves nine.”
2. The compulsory set Text ( 20 marks)
William Shakespeare, The Merchant of Venice.
Closely referring to William’s Shakespeare’s, Merchant of Venice, write a composition
illustrating instances of human love and friendship.
3. The optional set texts
Answer any one of the following questions
Either
a) The Short story
Macmillan (ED), Half a Day and other stories
Drawing your illustrations from the life of the narrator in Naguib Mahfouz’s “Half a
Day” write a composition on the saying “No pain no gain” (20 marks)
b) John Ruganda Shreds of Tenderness
“ In a political crisis, women suffer the most.” Write a composition in support of the
statement drawing your illustration from John Ruganda’s “Shreds of Tenderness.”
(20 marks)
OR
c) The Novel
Velma Pollard, Homestretch
Write a composition on community service as discussed in “Homestretch”.
