i) Explain what you understand by the word ‘temperament’ (4 Marks)
ii) Hippocrates and Galen distinguished four types of temperament. Name and briefly
explain the importance of each of the four temperaments in the understanding of
human behaviour (16 Marks)

Sigmund Freud accounted for individual differences in personality by suggesting that people deal with
their fundamental drives differently. Explain how he illustrated this scenario by picturing a continuing
battle between two parts of personality, the Id and the Superego, moderated by the ego (20 Marks)
