a) Outline the way in which information systems can support the sales and Marketing function of a
business, giving illustrations of systems at various organisational levels. ( 6 Marks)
b) Describe how the use of Point-of-Sale systems and appropriate databases can provide Marketing
information to a retail company. ( 6 Marks)
c) c) Describe FOUR advantages of using the internet as an advertising medium? (8 Marks)

a) Briefly explain the nature and purpose of the following major types of systems, and give a general
example of EACH:-
i. Executive Information Systems (EIS).
ii. Management Information Systems (MIS).
iii. Expert Systems (ES). (12 Marks)
b) Why is integration between these systems important? ( 8 Marks)

a) Define and describe the importance of Transaction Processing Systems (TPS) in the accounting
and finance department of a business. (10 Marks)
b) Identify and distinguish the use of online and batch processing within such a department. (4 Marks)

a) What is a GDSS? Outline a set of typical software components of a GDSS and describe how the
use of GDSS can improve decision-making. (8 Marks)
b) Define the terms ‘system’ and ‘subsystem’ and, using an example from a specific functional area of
a business, describe how a system may comprise of a number of subsystems. (8 Marks)
c) Using the same or a different example area, illustrate the concepts of system ‘feedback’ and
‘control’. (4 Marks)

a) Describe the ways in which modern information systems may be vulnerable to security breaches
and why breaches may on occasions be difficult to detect? (10 Marks)
b) Give THREE examples of accidental breaches of security in an information system. (6 Marks)
c) Give a short description of TWO counter-measures that an Information Systems Manager should
put in place to counter these types of security threat? (4 Marks)
