A couple plans to have four children. Determine the following probabilities:
i. All are boys
ii. Exactly two girls
iii. Less than two girls
iv. Three boys or less
v. Third born is the second girl

In a production process it has been established that 5% of total output is defective. If six items are picked at random for inspection, evaluate the following probabilities:
a. Not defective
b. Exactly 3 defectives
c. More than 1/2 are defective
d. All are defective
e. 2nd item picked is the 1st defective

Question 4
Citrus fruits are packed in containers of 20 for export. It is known that 2% of such fruits are spoilt by the time they reach their destination. If such a container is picked at random determine the following probabilities

a. Obtaining more than 2 spoilt fruits
b. Probability that at most one fruit is spoilt.

Invoices at a particular depot have amounts which follow a normal distribution with a mean of £103.60 and a standard deviation of £8.73.

Determine the percentage of invoices that will be:
a. Over £120.05
b. Below £72.75
c. Between £83.65 and £117.6
d. What will be the invoice amount such that approximately 20% of invoices are for greater amounts
e. What amounts of invoices, symmetrical about the mean, will 95% of all invoice amounts lie?

In a production probes it is known that 4% of the items are defective. Twenty (20) items are selected at random by a quality control inspector.

Required
Determine the probability that:
a. Exactly 3 items are defective
b. Less than 3 items are defective
(use a normal approximation as well as binomial distribution)

It takes ten minutes on average to receive an order in a certain restaurant after it has been placed. If the service is exponentially distributed, find the probability that customer waiting time is

i. >10 minutes
ii. 3 minutes or less
iii. Between 4 minutes and 12 minutes

Question 7
It takes a computer maintainance person three hours to repair a microcomputer.

Required
i. Determine the average service rate
ii. Determine the chances that service on a faulty computer will take less than 2 hours
iii. What is the standard deviation of the distribution

Question 8
The sales distribution for a product in a year is uniform and ranges between 400 and 900 units.

Determine the following probabilities:
a. That sales will be
i. Between 500 units and 600 units
ii. Greater than 750 units
b. Determine the mean of the distribution and its standard deviation.
