(c) Categorical and numerical variables
(d) Stratified and systematic sampling
(e) Randomized block design and Latin square design

2. (a) List two reasons why data transformation is necessary prior to data analysis. [2 marks]

(b) State three forms of data transformation indicating the circumstance under which each method is applied. [3 marks]

3. The following figures represent the ages of a sample of make employees in a firm.

25 44 54 33 46 20 32 19 50 39 33 37

(a) Form a grouped frequency distribution, using 10 years interval. [2 marks]

(b) Construct a histogram to illustrate the distribution of the data. [3 marks]

(c) Determine the median of the grouped data. [2 marks]

4. A scientist crossed a tiger and a Cheetah. She predicted a phenotypic outcome of the traits she was observing in the following ratio, 4 stripes only, 3 spots only, 9 both stripes and spots. When the cross was performed and she counted the individuals, she found that 50 had stripes only, 41 has spots only while 85 had both. Using chi-square method, determine whether she found the predicted outcome. [6 marks]

5. A research was conducted to determine the proportions of a normal distribution of systolic blood pressure (BP) in 2000 normal healthy individuals. The group was found to have a mean Bp of ยต=120 mmHg and d of 10mm Hg.

(a) What proportion of the population has Bp lager than 126 mm Hg. [2 marks]

(b) What proportion of this population lies between 120 and 126 mm Hg.
[2 marks]

(c) What is the probability of selecting at random from this population a person with Bp measuring between 126 โ€“ 137.5 mm Hg. [2 marks]

(d) List two properties of normal distribution. [2 marks]

Section B: Essay (40 Marks)

6. Discuss the application of computer technology in biological research.
