Discuss any five events that trigger crisis and explain who may be affected by such events.

Explain the meaning of crisis intervention and the purpose for it. (10 Marks)

Question Four
Discuss the six steps of crisis intervention.

Briefly show how a crisis counselor:

Achieves contact with the person in crisis.
Boils down the problem to its essentials.
Coping actively with the client’s problem.

Question Five
Explain the importance of counselor follow up sessions in crisis counseling.

In order for a person in crisis to stabilize it is recommended that one goes by what he or she knows and not by what they feel. Briefly discuss how this can be a problem for a person in crisis to manage.

Question Six
As a rule in crisis counseling a counselor should not re-assure the client that everything is alright unless the client specifically asks for re-assurance. Explain briefly why this is important.

When confronted unexpectedly by a client in crisis, the counselor should remain calm, poised and well in control of himself or herself. Explain why this is important.
