QUESTION ONE:
The human resources is arguably the most flexible and most important. For any organization to succeed in achieving its corporate strategies there is need to establish a well thought out human resources strategy. Discuss. (25 marks)

QUESTION TWO:
Tanganyika furniture started operations in 1975 with the owner employing a couple of carpenters and paying them on piece rate basis. Being a carpenter himself, it was quite possible to handle all the requirements for the business. To-date the outfit has grown both in terms of output and staff establishment. What started as a small carpentry shop has grown into a big executive furniture manufacturer enjoying an annual turnover of Ksh.300 million in 2007 and with four fully pledged departments. The son of the owner who is the current general manager who joined the business after graduating with a bachelor of commerce has approached you to analyze jobs in two key department (production and marketing).
a)
Discuss the different methods available for your use in job analysis indicating the factors that favour and against use of each. (10 marks)
b)
What process would you follow to come up with the final job analysis? (15 marks)

QUESTION THREE:
Human resources managers today are faced with the enormous task of long-term forecasting the organizations HR requirements in the same way that the production and sales department have to forecast for raw materials and demand for the organizations products. Why would this be so and what categories of staff would form the basis for man power planning. (25 marks)

QUESTION FOUR:
It has been argued that the rising unemployment has been caused by the supply of labour outstripping its demand. However many organizations will periodically face labour shortages. To avoid those organizations should assess the sources of labour supply available and strategically make decisions on the key aspects of manpower requirements and utilization.
a)
What factors affect the nature of external labour market to cause this imbalance in the Kenyan labour market today? (15 marks)
b)
Where would you advice the organizations to focus on as they assess their labour supply. Please discuss the specific aspects in each source. (10 marks)
