Identify and discuss the role of geology in locating sources for water supply. In connection with this list and describe five frequently used geological maps (20 marks)

i)
For the satisfactory design and construction of engineering structures such as dams Geological Site Investigations are necessary. These investigations can be conducted either in-situ or in the laboratories. With this in mind discuss the components of an in-situ investigation (15 marks)
ii)
Hence or otherwise list the factors that must usually be investigated by every ground investigation (5 marks)

Information about the geology of ground to be excavated is most desirable and should be considered essential for ensuring the safety of personnel who will work below ground level. Discuss. (10 marks)
ii)
List and discuss the common methods used for creating excavations/holes in the ground giving the merits and demerits of each. (10 marks)

The influence of geology upon the selection of a suitable site for dam construction cannot be overlooked. Why is this so? (10 marks)

Discuss other factors that are considered alongside the geology of a prospective site for dam construction (10 marks)
