Briefly explain the relationship between language and literature. [6 marks]

Describe three steps the teacher may take in developing learners’ skills of literary criticism and appreciation. [6 marks]
c)
In traditional African settings, children learnt without much strain. Using illustrations, explain this view in terms of Oral Literature teaching and learning. [6 marks]
d)
Mention six ways in which dramatization would help students understand events in a novel. [6 marks]
e)
State six ways in which the class reader can be used to develop language skills in a form one class. [6 marks]

Using relevant examples, discuss the Reading, Discussion and Application stages in a poetry lesson. [20 marks]

Identify a relevant topic and write two instructional objectives for teaching the play in a form four class. [5 marks]
b)
Draw up a 40 minutes lesson plan that you can use to achieve the objectives set in (a) above. [15 marks]

Discuss the strategies the teacher may employ in teaching the following conventions of the novel:

Characterization

Structure.

Discuss the significance of literature in the current integrated English syllabus in the development of learners’ communication competence. [10 marks]
