1. In what sense did the Administrative Management Theory address an inadequacy in the

2. Briefly discuss one flaw of bureaucracy that has been observed by critics of the

The head teacher is a link in the chain of authority in the school system. With regard to this statement, give a comprehensive distinction between the head teacher’s “vested authority” and his/ her “entrusted authority”. [4 marks]
b) Distinguish between student self-discipline and imposed discipline in the school context.

Giving examples, discuss two barriers to effective communication in relation to school

Briefly explain the main purpose of budgeting within a school management context. [2marks]

Explain why hygiene factors are termed as ‘disatifiers’ and motivation factors are termed as ‘ satisfiers’ in Hertzberg’s motivation theory.

Using relevant examples to illustrate discuss how the head teacher could apply any six of F.W Taylor’s principles of scientific management to enhance efficiency and performance in the school. [20 marks]

Giving appropriate examples, discuss at least six (6) causes of student indiscipline in Kenya secondary schools and suggest a remedy for each cause. [20marks]

3.
With relevant examples, discuss the extent to which a head teacher can use or apply five types of power at his/her disposal to effectively achieve school goals and objectives. [20 marks]


4.
Critically discuss the duties and powers of the School Board of Governors (BOG) as and arm of School management. [20marks]

5.
a)
Discuss Maslow’s Hierachy of Needs Theory. [10 marks]
b)
Explain some of the difficulties that school authorities may experience in the process of fulfilling each category of needs. [5 marks]
c)
Give suggestions on ways of overcoming the difficulties identified in (b) above. [5 marks]
