This paper is divided into three section A, B and C.
Answer three questions, ONE from each section.
SECTION A
1.
Discuss the reasons why teachers in your country need to study history if education. Illustrate your answer with specific examples.
2.
Compare and contrast the systems of education in Athens and Sparta in ancient civilization in Greece under the following:

Relevance of that education to the theory and practice of education in your country today.

3.
Discuss the key educational ideas of any two of the following educational philosophers and assess their contribution to modern education practice.
a) Plato

e) Comenius
g) Maria Montessori


SECTION B
4.
Describe salient features of indigenous education in Africa and show how aspects of it can be applied to modern education practice in schools in your country.
5.
Compare and contrast the basis of the British and the French education policies in their colonies. Show how these policies affected the development of education in Africa.
6.
Discuss how economic and political conditions of the 1970s and 1980s affected the development of education in Africa. Illustrate your answer with special reference to the primary school level.

SECTION C
7.
Discuss the response of Africans to the establishment and development of formal Western in Kenya up to 1920.
8.
Assess the impact of the Second World War (1939-1945) on the development of education in Kenya. Show how the African Education Commission (Beecher Report) of 1949 affected the development of secondary and higher education.
9.
Describe major changes that have taken place in the systems of education in Kenya since independence in 1963.
