Briefly explain how children’s literature influences children’s emotional development.

Briefly describe how children’s literature influences children’s physical development.

3.
Describe what “children like” in written literature.

4.
Briefly describe with illustrations how to make a cloth book for infants and young children.

5.
Describe citing relevant examples the preparations a teacher should take prior to story time.

Briefly describe with examples what is a story according Anne Pellowski and what formats a story can take.


SECTION B: LONG ANSWER QUESTIONS (40 MARKS)
INSTRUCTIONS: Answer only two of the following four questions

Discuss with examples the steps Margaret Read MacDonald describes for learning a story for an oral presentation and their relevance in Kenyan classrooms.

You have read a story about a boy, his dog and her puppies to a class of four year olds. Describe in detail two follow-up activities you would use in each of the following areas: number, science, art and craft, social studies. Within these 8 activities, identify the objectives as well as steps within each activity.

Write a short story (two lines per page for a total of 16 lines on 8 pages) for five years olds that helps children to see the need to conserve water.
b)
Identify how the story should be read, where the teacher should pause, what should she emphasize and how, and what questions she might ask during or at the end of the story.
c)
Identify what teaching aids the teacher should have available and use during this story.

10.
a)
Describe with examples how children’s literature influences intellectual development.
b)
Based on this description in (a) discuss how you would train pre-school teachers to select and use children’s picture books in nursery classes.
