a)
State six general objectives of teaching English and briefly show the literary skills inherent in each of them. [6 marks]
b)
Briefly explain the relationship between language and literature in relation to the integration of the teaching of the two. [6 marks]
c)
Explain why it is important for the teacher of literature to do an entry behaviour analysis of his/her students. [6 marks]
d)
Illustrate the use of the play for teaching grammar skills. [6 marks]
e)
Mention six steps the teacher may follow in the development of skills of criticism and appreciation in students. [6 marks]

2.
a)
Discuss how the teacher can lead form four students in understanding the treatment of characters in aplay. [10 marks]
b)
Explain, with examples, how the teacher can test progress in learning when teaching the play in form three. [10 marks]

3.
a)
Identify ten resources and using examples from any recommended novel, describe how you would use these resources to teach given conventions. [15 marks]
b)
Explain five teaching/learning activities the teacher can use in oral literature lessons in form two. [5 marks]

4.
a)
Describe five qualities the poetry teacher needs to possess. [5 marks]
b)
Poetic devices should not be taught or introduced in a vacuum. Identify three poetic devices and show how these can be taught meaningfully in a form four class. [15 marks]

5.
a)
Identify a topic from any genre of literature and state three instructional objectives from it. [15 marks]
b)
Using the objectives in (a) above, prepare an integrated lesson plan for the teaching a form four class. [14 marks]
