Define the term bereavement then explain three reasons why prospective teacher counselors have to study and understand the process of bereavement. [8marks]
b)
Differentiate between grief and mourning. Illustrate your answer with examples. [6marks]
c)
Describe three factors which make the grieving process rather difficult for children to comprehend. [6marks]
d)
Describe the stages of grief proposed by Elizabeth K u&bler-Rose (1969). Comment on its application in the Kenyan setting. [10marks]
2.
a)
Define the term disenfranchised grief then describe at least four types of loss that may lead to this grief. [10marks]
b)
Explain at least three helping strategies counselors may use when assisting persons experiencing disenfranchised grief to help them overcome their sorrow. [6marks]
c)
One of the objectives of helping bereaved persons is to assist them in their grief work so that they “restore’” themselves. Explain how you can facilitate bereaved persons restore themselves. [4marks]

a)
Kamau’s father died in a car accident and you are expected to give him the sad news. Describe the procedure you would follow when imparting the news to Kamau who is an adolescent. [8marks]

Since Kamau is an adolescent what factors would your bear in mind while helping him to cope with the loss. [6marks]

Describe at least four tasks in mourning that should assist the bereaved family members in their mourning. [4marks]
