1. Define the following terms:

a) Argument, give an example that illustrate your answer. (4 marks)

b) Thinking (1 mark)

c) State ten (10) Propositions (5 marks)

d) Read the newspaper clip provided (mother language day) and answer the
following question:

Identify any five deductive arguments from the clip and put them in text book
format. (15 marks)

2. Un-supported assertions are not arguments and they come indifferent varieties.
Briefly discuss any three and for each give an example. (6 marks)

b) Discuss any six reasons that you would use to justify why logic should be
taught to journalism students. (9 marks)

3. What is a fallacy? Explain any five fallacies that are commonly committed by
journalists, writers, authors, logicians, and other communicators when formulating
arguments. (15 marks)

4. Discuss the Mills methods of cause and effects. (15 marks)

5. i) Explain the term Validity.
Can a valid deductive argument have a false premise(s) and a true conclusion?
False premise(s) and a false conclusion? True premise(s) and a true conclusion?
True premise(s) and false conclusion. Briefly explain and give an example for each
case. (12 marks)

ii) Briefly discuss any three ways in which an arguer can clouds his argument
