1.Answer the following questions:
a)What is the difference between an ecosystem and an ecological
community? (4 marks)
b)With examples, distinguish between a food chain and a food web(8 marks)
c)Present some arguments for or against the following statement:
“With proper planning, we can achieve a constant carrying capacity for
human beings on Earth.” (18 marks)

2.a)What are greenhouse gases? Name the primary greenhouse gases in the
Earth’s atmosphere (6 marks)
b) How can farming lead to the spread of desert? What might be done to
stop this desertification? (8 marks)
c) Briefly discuss the Earth’s energy balance and give the four main factor
determining the temperature at or near the surface of the Earth. (6 marks)
