QUESTION ONE
a) There are numerous ways through which the management of an organization such as a university
can communicate with the staff.
Describe what you think would be the most effective method to use in each of the following situations.
Do not quote the same means more than once. Give reasons for your choice. (10 Marks)
i. The university is restructuring and has to lay off some members of staff.
ii. The university has won a new major order.
iii. Disciplinary action is to be taken against a student for breach of university rules.
iv. The university will be closed from 2nd April to 6th April for the Easter holidays.
v. The students have to vacate the university compound immediately because of a fire
breakout
b) In a speech, outline the benefits that may accrue to an organization that uses the following methods
of communication.
i. Facsimile (FAX) machine
ii. Answering machine
iii. The mobile telephone
iv. The internet (10 Marks)
c) The employees in the organization where you work or learn have been on a go slow for the last
four days due to certain issues, thus disrupting the smooth operations of the institution.
Write a notice to be published in the newspapers addressing this issue. (10 Marks)

report in the order in which you would write it. (10 Marks)
c) One of the receptionists at the university front desk has been having problems communicating with
students. Explain five possible causes of this. (5 Marks)

a) You have just attended the monthly progress meeting of a team of experts in charge of a project
your organization is currently undertaking. The first phase of the project has just been completed. This
has revealed some problems and ideas for the second phase.

b) Explain the elements of an effective oral presentation. (5 Marks)
