A combination of poverty, lack of awareness, early pregnancy and old aged cultural practices continues to deny the girl child in Kenya the right to be educated the way it should have been.however, the Government is doing its best to see her realize her dreams.

Despite the introduction of the free primary education, the access of education to a girl child is still low. Even if the analysis shows that the introduction of free primary schools education has raised the enrollment, the girl child gets herself out of school owing a number of reasons.

You may also find some of the parents justifying the denial of girls' right to be educated stating that they might bring shame to the family by getting pregnant early. Others believes that educating a girl to the higher level will prevent her from getting married unless to a foreign land (in this case referring to other communities)and in respect to this, for some parents, early marriages will prevent it and also preserve the culture hence denies her the right to education.

When you also take a good look in a number of communities in the country, it is the girl who spend more time in household chores than boys leaving them with little time to study. The situation even worsens when the mother dies forcing the girl to take over her responsibilities and this in most cases forces her out of school.
But all is not lost, the government has also taken some initiatives in promotion of children's education by enshrining the rights in the Children's act 2011. The Act also created the department for children to deal with their right and welfare.

Of significance also is the fact that a number of NGO's have been allowed to operate in some areas where early marriages is prevalent. They are now educating

the child in the importance of taking girls to school rather than marrying them to older men.
