1.0BACKGROUND OF KEFRI
1.1 INTRODUCTION
The Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI) is a state corporation established in 1986, under the science and technology act of laws of Kenya. KEFRI undertakes research in forests and allied natural resources. The institute conduct research and development activities under five major thematic areas namely; Forest productivity and improvement, Forest product development, Forest Biodiversity and environmental management, Technical support service, Social economics, policy governance and technical support and Biodiversity and environment management.
Apart from the above, KEFRI also has a seed production unit called Kenya Forestry Seed Centre (KFSC) that specializes in the production of high quality tree seeds, both indigenous and exotic species. ...................................................
