i. Land preparation.
Early/during dry season Land is cleared Ploughing Harrowing (2nd cultivation)
ii. Planting
Early /at onset of rain Spacing 70-90 cm 25-30 cm Holes are dug of 8-10 depth. Tablespoon full
phosphatic fertilizer/hand full well rotten manure. 1-2 seed are put per hole. Hole are well covered
then soil firms.
(iii) Harvesting and handling
Done when leaves (stalk) has turned brown.
They are cut at ground level.
They are stoked for further drying.
They are shelled and dried.
Threshing and winnowing done.
Grains are dried, dusted with appropriate pesticides.
They are packed in 90 kg bags for storage/marketing.
