Determine the pressure required to compress a gas in a cylinder initially at 20oC and at a pressure of 1.03 x 10-5 to one-eighth of its original volume.

John
P1 = 1.03 x 105, let the original volume be V1,

then final volume, V2 = $\frac{1}{8}V_1$

P1V1 = P2V2,

P2 = $\frac{P_1V_1}{V_2}$

= $\frac{(1.03\times 10^-5)V_1}{V1/8}$ = 8.24 x 105
