Discuss the effects of light intensity to transpiration of plants.

Discuss the effects of light intensity to transpiration of plants.

Increase in light intensity increases the rate of transpiration while decrease in light intensity lowers the rate of transpiration. This is because the stomata opens in response to high light intensity and closes when light intensity is low.The opening of the stomata increases evaporation of water from the leaf hence increased transpiration rate.

The rate of transpiration is controlled by stomatal opening. Increase in light intensity encourages stomatal opening hence increases transpiration while decrease in light intensity discourages stomatal opening hence decreases the rate of transpiration.
