a) i) Name the process through which the plant cells take up sodium ions.
ii) Give a reason for your answer in (a) above
b) If the plant was sprayed with a chemical that inhibits respiration:
i) Which of the two ions uptake will be affected?
ii) Give a reason for your answer in (b) (i) above

Answers

John
a) i) Diffusion

ii) Ions diffuse from highly concentrated region to lowly concentrated region OR ions diffuse along a concentration gradient because sea water contains high concentration of sodium than cell sap

b) i) Iodine ions

ii) Iodine ions taken up by active transport i.e against concentration gradient and this process requires energy delivered from respiration i.e sea water has lower concentration of iodine ions.
