Education for girls has lagged behind because

-Girls were considered an investment that would be exchanged for cows or goats at the time of marriage.Educating girls was seen as a waste of resources
-In some communities, girls were engaged or married while too young. This denied them a chance to go to school
-Early pregnancies among school girls forced many of them to drop out prematurely
-Education of girls was not valued highly by parents because after marriage they would only benefit the family where they got married
-It was misconceived that girls who went to school would be immoral or loose
-Female circumcision created a feeling of readiness for marriage hence causing girls to drop out of schools
