(a) Name the type of response that was being investigated.
(b) If the Klinostat was not rotating:
(i) State the observations that would be made on the seedlings after three days;
(ii) Explain the observations in (b)(i) above.
(c) If the experiment was repeated with the Klinostat roting:
(i) State the observation that was made on the seedlings after three days;
(ii) Give a reason for the observation made on the seedlings

(a) Geotrophism

(b) (i) The root will bend downwards while the shoot will bend upwards.

(ii) Force of gravity causes auxins to migrate and accumulates on the lower side of growing shoot and root. High concentration of auxins in the shoot promotes faster growth but inhibits growth in the root. Lower side of the shoot grows more while the upper side in the root grows more

(c) (i) Bean seedlings will grow horizontally.

(ii) The klinostat rotates the seedling nullifying the effect of auxins migrating and accumulating on the lower side of the root and shoot.
