What are the challenges facing the health sector in Kenya?

Highlight the challenges facing the health sector in Kenya.

(i) Increased spread of cancer,diabetes,heart diseases,HIV and AIDS which claim many productive manpower and requires huge financial resources.

(ii) Poverty among many people causing malnutrition and diseases-prone situations.

(iii) Environmental pollution causing allergies which have no cure.

(iv) Certain outdated and rigid cultural values and practices which challenges the health sector like non-belief in conventional medicine and Female Genital Mutilation(FGM).

(v) High population growth posing challenges to the existing medical facilities,medical services and personnel.

(vi) Early pregnancies and illegal abortion which endanger lives of many women/girls.

(vii) Challenges and resistance from religious groups over scientific advancement and technology like test tube fertilisation and legalisation of abortion.

(viii) High levels of accidents through road,causing injuries and increasing medical cost.

(ix) Corruption and embezzlement of funds through procurement and distribution of medical facilities through tendering.

(x) Brain drain due to better remuneration in more developed countries.

(xi) Insufficient funds to fully implement various programmes in health sector like The National Hospital Insurance Fund(NHIF).

(xii) Illiteracy and arrogance.

(xiii) Unavailability of medical data.

(xiv) High incidences of water borne diseases.

(xv) Poor government policy.

(xvi) High cost of medical equipment, drugs and services.
