Explain how this observation may be used to determine the type of charge on the electroscope.

U.V removes electrons from zinc surface. Since the leaf collapses, the electroscope must be negatively charged. This is because the removed electrons are repelled away by the negative charge on the electroscope thereby discharging the electroscope.
