hydrolysed or broken down into soluble diffusible form by enzymes
- Soluble food diffuses to the growing embryo
- Oils and carbohydrates provide energy
- Simple sugars converted to cellulose to form cell wall
- Amino acids make protoplasm
- Seed develops plumule and radicle hence germinates
