The 4R stands for the Right Fertilizer, Right rate, Right time and Right place. Both organic and inorganic are encourage to be used. Mineral fertilizer are readily available, and contain high level of plant nutrients.
Main limitation is the lack of funds to the smallholder farmer. Organic mainly encompasses the use of crop and animal residues. Improves soil responsiveness to fertilizer application.
b)Local adaptation.
Provides an alternative to synergies based on the available resources to the smallholder farmer. Any combination of the 2 will certainly results to increased yields.
c)Improved Germplasm.
Smallholder farmers should use planting materials that are best adapted to his local conditions. Local climate and soil conditions. High yielding and possibly resistant to pests and diseases.
