1. One is able to keep many genotypes for a longer period (No risk of the non competitive types. As you move from 1st gen, most the plants are rep i.e. evaluating large families /gemplasm loss is minimized.
2. Doesnt require much space can be done on GH so require very little effort / i.e. harvesting /weeding a single plant growing one single seed per plant.
3. Its not possible to do early generation testing because deal with 1 plant
4. Selection in GH’se may not always reflect performance in the field
5. Less record keeping
6. Can handle very many generations within a short period.
