a) Non-judgmental acceptance of the client. This refers to overcoming negative attitudes, stereotypes and biases.

b) Warm regard towards the client. This means providing a healthy and warm climate and helping the client feel at home with the counselor.

c) Promising the client trustworthiness. Many clients are afraid that their secrets, fears and concerns might be shared with other people. The counselor should reassure the client of confidentiality of any information shared.
