rift valley is formed through faulting
1. when layers of old sedimentary rock are subjected to tensional forces,a parallel crack is developed in them forcing the blocks between the cracks to sink leading to formation of rift valley .
2. comprehension forces causes reverse cracks to those of tensional forces to appear in the earth crust, increase in pressure on the earth crust to slide over the central block which is pushed down to form rift valley.
