- It makes us distinguish in human beings between changes that can be expected to result from a learning process and those that cannot.

- Enables us to distinguish between goals that are feasible and those that are likely to take long time or are almost impossible to attain at a certain age.

- It helps us form objectives in grade placement which are educationally attainable, and which recognize the length of time required to attain an objective and the age levels for which the effort is most efficiently employed.

- It helps us to determine conditions requisite for the learning of certain types of objectives. For example there are psychological findings that reinforcement takes place when things learned are integrated, coherent and consistent with each other.
