b. In Egypt just like in Mesopotamia, early agriculture was developed along river valleys. Highlight the factors that facilitated agriculture along river valleys.

a. The crops grown include wheat, barley, fruits, flax, beans, vegetables, cucumbers, onions, lentils, dates, figs and grapes. The animals kept by Egyptians included cattle, goats, sheep, pigs, chicken and poultry
Broadcasting was used as a method of planting and then the animals trampled on the grains. Shifting cultivation was also practiced before human population increased.
Farm implements included sticks, axes, sickles and hoes made of wood or bronze. Later ox drawn ploughs were used when the area to be cultivated was huge. Later iron tools were used which made farming efficient
Agriculture was mainly practiced along banks of the river Nile
Harvesting was done twice a year due to irrigation
b) Agriculture along the river valleys in Egypt was facilitated by the following factors:
i. Availability of labor for planting and harvesting and herding of the animals kept.
ii. Availability of market due to the high population along the river valleys.
iii. Good fertile soils that ensure high yields for the farmers and growth of pasture for the animals.
iv. Availability of transport for the crops from the farms to the markets. Water transport was mostly used.
v. Availability of water for irrigation of the crops grown and for the livestock kept
c) Early agriculture in Egypt was favored by the following factors :
i. Availability of water for irrigation and for livestock from the Nile.
ii. Good fertile soils that supported crop farming and ensured high yields and growth of pastures for the animals
iii. Gently sloping lands along the Nile that enabled irrigation
iv. Warm and sunny climate for ripening of the crops just before harvest
v. Availability of indigenous animals and plants such as wheat and barley
vi. Invention of tools such as bronze hoe and plough that made agriculture more efficient and ensured high yields
