What are the Main Features of Qualitative Research Methods?

-It provides descriptions and accounts of the processes of social interaction in “natural settings”. Qualitative researchers are more interested in describing processes than outcomes.

-It aims at generating theories and hypotheses from data that emerge. It does not aim at testing pre-conceived hypotheses. It begins with scientific observations and builds up towards general patterns.

-It uses observational techniques and interview methods on small samples of target groups to gain in-depth understanding of a program, project.

-Qualitative researchers use purposive sampling.

-The data produced is not easily quantifiable for statistical analysis.

-Data is analyzed inductively.
