Business Studies Education is a field of study in the professional teacher preparation
programmes. It is intended to prepare teacher trainees in the professional aspects of
teaching. Aspects of professional preparation of teachers in this course include
Philosophical foundation of Business Studies, learning theories and practices in
Business Studies, instructional methodologies suitable in the delivery of the subject
matter of Business Studies, curriculum development in Business Studies, teaching
approaches and the teaching methods in Business Studies, planning for instruction in
Business Studies, and assessment techniques in measuring learners’ understanding,
comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis and evaluation of knowledge, skills and
attitudes of Business Studies. Business Studies methods are used interchangeably with
Business Studies Education.

i) Those business subjects taught at the secondary school level such as bookkeeping, typewriting, shorthand, general business, business law and other similar subjects.
ii) Been synonymous with any education for entrance into the business world given at any educational level.
iii) Post-secondary education in subjects such as Accounting, Marketing, Office Administration, Secretarial and Finance.
iv) Business teacher education i.e. the preparation or in services education of secondary schools business teachers.
