1.Maize is a staple food of many people. The grains are ground to produce maize ?our and it is also consumed as a food grain. It may be consumed fresh, ground, boiled, roasted or mixed with other foods.
2.The stalks, leaves, and other remains from the maize cobs are used to feed domestic animals especially dairy cattle.
3.The crop can be used as fodder while still green
4.The stalks and cobs are used to provide domestic fuel particularly in the rural areas. They are also used as organic manure.
5.The grains are used in manufacture of corn oil, alcohol, starch and animal feeds hence it is a vital raw material for industrialization.
6.Maize starch is converted to dextrin syrup and sugars.
7.Oils from maize are sued to make soap, glycerin and salad dressing.
8.Starch from maize is used for production of ordinary alcohol consumed by human beings.
