1. Reward Power:-
This type of power exists when person A has power over person B because A has rewards in his custody which B wants and values. Reward power is effective if the sub-ordinate attaches importance to the rewards.

2. Coercive Power
This is power based on fear or punishment. The holder of this power has the ability to inflict punishment or negative consequences on the other person.
This type of power is important because it can be used to enforce rules, receives orders and policies in an organization.

3. Legitimate Power
This is the legal power that a person wields by virtue of his/her position in an organization.

4. Expert Power
Possessed by a person when people see him/her as having knowledge or expertise which is greatly valued by them e.g. a teacher in class

5. Referent Power
Wielded from personal qualities like charisma physical imposition, and domineering.
