This period is characterized by literature that depicts the Whiteman an exploiter,

The Africans are alienated, their land has been taken away from them and they have been
turned to slaves. The tax that was imposed on them makes them work in the settlers? farms
in order to get money to pay it. The Africans have to carry a passbook
wherever they go and their movement is curtailed. They can't move freely in their own
country.
