Step 1: Preparation
This includes setting objectives, selecting and training assessment teams and organizing
logistics. Most EFSAs are carried out to address four broad objectives:
1. Estimation of the severity of food security
2. Projection of future food security
3. Identification of vulnerable groups
4. Identification of appropriate interventions

Step 2: Secondary information collection
This involves collating relevant government and agency reports.

Step 3: Primary information collection
This involves collecting original data. Methods of data collection include questionnaires,
measurement, observation, interviews and focus group discussions. Food security, unlike
malnutrition, cannot be measured by a single indicator. There are many indicators of food
security as shown below.

Step 4: Analysis
This step covers the interpretation of the data and information collected.

Step 5: Report writing and dissemination of results
