Similarities
I. In both countries education is managed by the government through their ministries of
education.
II. The levels of education in both countries are primary, secondary and tertiary education.
III. Similar subjects are taught i.e. math, English, languages, sciences and religious education.
IV. In both countries primary and secondary education are compulsory
V. University education takes four years in both education systems.

Differences
I. Education system in Kenya is 8-4-4(in transition as if 2019) while in Nigeria is 6-3-3-4.
II. In Nigeria secondary education is in 2levels, junior and senior high while in Kenya secondary
education is one level of four years.
III. The management of education in Kenya is centrally determined, while in
Nigeria some powers over educational delivery are devolved to state and local government.
IV. In Kenya, education is financed through public funds in form of taxes, fees by parents, as
well as local and international donors while financing of basic education in Nigeria is done three tiers of government i.e. federal, state, and local governments.
