Steve loves and cares for Maureen.Contrary to traditional customary norms he assists Maureen do home chores.According to the people,Steve's woman had bewitched him. See how he goes shopping in the market and I here he even cooks for her.
Steve marries Maureen even though he knows that she has a 'baggage' from a previous marriage and the fact that she is HIV positive.Even though he knew that people gossiped about this relationship with Maureen he did not care.
He is determined to change Maureen's views about HIV/AIDS. He calls for her support to fight against any feelings of hopelessness.She reprimands her for lack of will to fight the disease.You insult yourself.You insult all womanhood.
Steve is determined to change the mindset of his society that having HIV/AIDS is a kin to being given a death sentence.He tells Kanja,'That is good.You will be surprised that when we put names to our fears,they are not as threatening as they appeared at first.His non conformism to retrogressive societal norms evident in his marriage to Maureen,a HIV positive lady who has been married before is seen in his words ,"so many of us are used to the shadows that when you dare to stand in the light of day,people behave as if you are the one in the wrong.
