i) Checking of blood pressure to ensure it is normal

iii) Establishing the level of iron in the blood to determine whether there is need to administer medicine
iv) Weight increase is monitored, to ensure that the baby is growing and the mother is not gaining excessive weight
v) The foetal heartbeat is checked to ascertain that the baby is alive and in the correct position.
vi) Blood samples are taken to ascertain the blood group and level of haemoglobin in case of need of blood transfusion during
delivery.
vii) The family’s health history and pattern of births/ deaths are taken as prediction of any necessary precautions to be
observed
