Solifluction is the movement of saturated soil, gravel and weathered material down a moderate slope.

Solifluction occurs in regions that experience cold climate. During winter, water freezes and freezes the soil as well.

During spring, the soil begins to thaw. The top soil therefore becomes saturated with water as subsoil remains frozen forming permafrost.

The saturated mass of top soil begins to creep over the subsoil. This movement is referred to as solifluction.
