Socialization is simply the process that helps human beings to live effectively in a social environment. It is the adoption of culture and is therefore different depending on one's culture and subculture.
Socialization starts early in life from childhood where parents, siblings and caregivers teach the new born how to function and adapt to the new environment. This can be defined as primary socialization. The child learns to speak and to handle small tasks, the child also learns how to interact with people as he/she observes how his/her parents and siblings interact with each other.
At the primary level of socialization, parents, siblings and caregivers are the elements of socialization.

As the child grows and become of age, they are enrolled in school and they may also begin to attend church, these instructions act as the elements of socialization at this stage as they play a major role in the molding of the individual's behavior. They learn what is morally right and wrong as their conscience develop.

Later in life, individuals interact directly with the society in which they are in. They learn the way of life in that particular society. They join groups and other communities with in the society which further socialize them. Here secondary socialization takes place where the agents of socialization are institutions and the society at large.
