A hypermarket is the biggest version of general stores, offering almost every category under one roof, while a departmental store is the extended version of general stores offering multiple categories (apparel, durables, cosmetics, electronics etc) under one roof.

A hypermarket are managed to offer offers goods at a very convenient pricing.Whereas,departmental stores are managed to offer goods at a competitive pricing.

Hypermarkets follow high volume, low margin strategy whereas, department store follow high volume, high margin
srategy.
Hypermarkets is also the place where more than 200,000 brands are available.Whereas, in departmental stores, fewer number of brands are available.

A hypermarket is a superstore combining a supermarket and a department store.While a departmental store is a retail establishment offering a wide range of consumer goods in different product categories known as "departments"

Because of their large footprints, many hypermarkets choose suburban or out-of-town locations that are easily accessible by automobile.While departmental stores are mostly located within the central business district of a town.
