On a map with scale 1: 50 000 a square piece of land of actual area 0.64 hectares has a length of x cm on the map. Find x.

Answers

1: 50 000

1 cm rep 50 000 cm

1 cm rep 500 m

1 cm² rep 250 000 m²

1 $cm^2$ rep $\frac{250 000}{100}$ = 25 hectares

$\frac{1 \times 0.64}{25}$ = 0.0256

x = $\sqrt 0.0256$ = 0.16 cm
